Hi Gary, the fact that you still keep this site running, despite having moved away from Sony altogether, is i feel extraordinary. 99% of people would have lost interest in running a site when they themselves have moved on in a different direction. For that i say thankyou. For myself i found this site just under 12 months ago when i was looking to purchase a new macro lens for my Sony A77, and found it most helpfull in that regard using the feedback provided by the few that still frequented the site. After a month or so and on returning back to NZ i didn't so much loose interest, as lost time to keep visiting the site. i only wish i had found the site earlier.
The news of the A99II rekindled my desires, thus i am back - really looking to see feedback from others on the new camera. I am only an armature photographer, but do enjoy what i do, and yes modern trends have completely changed the way we do things. With not only Facebook and twitter, you also have the likes of flicker that have Sony sections, and I'm sure there are a lot more, but what i have found is they tend to be a bit of a "show only" forum. at least here you do get some feedback albeit not as much as it was in the past. A professional photographer will invariably have their own facebook site set up, if not their own website, and in my opinion they are not looking for feedback on their photography - most would be scared of any criticism that may arise, however i was always brought up with the belief (with all things in life) that you should use criticism as positive feedback, using it to improve what ever it is you are doing.
That being said it is the trend these days to not use forums like they used to be, and i can fully understand should you wish to close the site. You mentioned perhaps a revamp or re branding of the site - i guess (and i know nothing about running websites or forums) that to do that would be a major undertaking and a lot of work on your part. I'm not sure how or what you would do to change it - is there a way to make it easier to post photo's or have non members (IE just an open forum) be able to make comments - though i can see that would open up the site to shall we say "undesirables - is there another way to prevent this. Facebook itself is constantly changing so as to keep generating popularity, though there are predictions that even facebook will be non existant in 10 or so years. As stated above i have found this site helpfull in my limited time on here, but that alone is not a reason for you to keep running the site, I will enjoy it while a can, as no doubt will some of the other regulars. Thanks for keeping it going as long as you have.
