G-mail .. Firefox techy question
« on: August 11, 2012, 03:09:24 PM »
Starting a few weeks ago, email notification pop ups appear on my laptop when new emails come in. See below. It is annoying.

I want to disable it, but here are the rubs.
1) According to FF, their notifier plug-in is not installed. And in any case the pop ups on my computer are blue and the FF one is brownish and there is no mini icon my the taskbar as FF describes for their notifier. So I do not think it is the FF notifier.
2) According to G-mail they do not have a notifier developed for Firefox yet.

I can't say for sure when these pop-up notifications started appearing. Not sure of it was when FF was updated.

I've looked through my FF menu and that is no help. And as I said the FF notifier plug-in is not installed and G-mails claims to not have a notifier for FF.

Anyway...all you techno wizards out there. Does anyone know how to disable this?

Thank you,

Clive

Hi Clive, I used to use Firefox but now I use Chrome; however, I had the same issue with Firefox and, as it turned out, somehow an e-mail notification pop-up had been installed on my computer with another program...once I found it I was easily able to disable things but I simply uninstalled it.   Maybe this is what's happened in your case since you don't have the Firefox notifier installed.   Some notifiers will notify for various e-mail programs but they can lurk in your computer and be annoying.

At any rate, have a look at this article and see if it is of any help in perhaps directing you to where the notifier lives in your computer.

Thanks KAP.

"somehow an e-mail notification pop-up had been installed on my computer with another program" .. it would seem so. I'll see if I can root it out. The one I have seems to be different than this one:

Perhaps the solution to make it go away is revealed at the site you posted. Thanks.

Clive

EDIT: KAP ... Aha! It is called Google Talk. There is a settings window and it allows you to disable all notifications. Thanks for the inspiration. Was annoying. ;)
