Congrats to all Brits!
« on: June 06, 2012, 06:59:01 AM »
I am a Canadian zealot ... but I was born in England and still have feelings for England. And of course Canada is part of the Commonwealth.

We won't debate the relevancy of the monarchy as some may be opposed. Fine. But the display of affection and admiration for Queen Elizabeth this past four days has been amazing. Something from which we could all learn.

What a party! WOW! I caught a few snippets here and there on TV and watched some of the final gig this evening.

Over in the colonies, we hear a lot of negative stuff about the UK these days: economy, deficits, racial and religious issues, unemployment. I could not say the last time I saw a "good news" story about the UK. But this was certainly a "good news" story. It was refreshing to see so much warmth and passion in the past few days.

If there was ever an argument of the monarchy then this was it. Perhaps there has not been this much unity in the UK in years...you'd be better judges of that than I. Thanks and congrats to all of the UK for a fine party.  ;)

Regards,

Clive

Cheers Clive!  Not a big fan, myself, but it's interesting to hear how some members of the Commonwealth feel. My Mum in Law went to S Africa last week to stay with my B and SiL for three months before her 90th birthday and they were celebrating it big style with lots of friends - some of whom aren't tied to BG in any other way than by the commonwealth. SiL is a Boer but they still celebrate!
I didn't watch much but was did interest me was that Charles was practically falling over sideways with the weight of his medals whilst Harry (who still serves in the army and has a right to wear uniform) only had three pinned on!  :)

Hi Pat,

COOL BRITANNIA !!!! Yay. I'm a New Zealander and was in the UK for a couple of months last year and throughly enjoyed myself. We travelled from Edinbrough to York to Wales to Landsend and onto London with alot of points in between. Cor, talk about UK countryside. Gee-orgeous !!

Yep, we watched a lot of the Jubilee on tv here and more than once I wished I could be back in the UK. My wife is a Brit. and she got quite nostagic about it all. Although I am on the fence as to the royalty HRH Queen Elizabeth is held in the highest esteme here in NZ and I must say being part of the greatest empire the world has ever known does give one warm fuzzies when I think about it. Especially when one stands in the centre of the empire ( London) and thinks of the reach/size ( NZ ) one realises the vastness of it.

Good on you UK and really hope the Olympics go well for you.

As too Anne, Chuck and Phil, well, they are Colnels in Chief of various Regiments and have served ( I think ) in the military so are entitled to wear all those medals.  Andrew is a combat veteran, as is Harry, and William is a Search and Rescue Pilot ( a real hero in my eyes).
