I was working my last shift at the Everyman Bistro in Liverpool.  Eight days later I was on the train down to RAF Halton to start my training in the RAF.  What happened wasn't why I joined, I had been waiting for my start date for 12months beforehand, but it felt very strange watching it all unravel knowing I would likely soon be having something to do with the consequences of that day.

Not sure exactly but we had flown into Melbourne just the week before after 3 months working in the UK.  I remember thinking that it could have been us on those one way flights....john

I was just driving home from the 6-14 shift at work. I was listening to Steve Wright on Radio 2 and he said that there were reports of an aeroplane hitting one of the towers. I was mioving house that week and went to my old place to pick up some more boxes that I'd packed to take to my new gaff.

Listening to radio in the car again to the new place and I went into watch the BBC News channel at the time on the telly to watch the rest of it.

I'm a news junkie so took it all in, as i do with every big story that happens.

For the record, I'm still iving in that 'new' house, still working at the same place as in 2001, still watching the news on the BBC, and Steve Wright is still on Radio 2 - not much changed in my life in the past 10 years....

I was working in the back room at home on a report when my (then) partner called me through to look at the news flash that had just come on the BBC. We just stood and watched in utter disbelief as the horror slowly unfolded before us. I recall thinking that the Americans would not take this without hitting back and that the world could never be the same again.
