7D's first anniversary
« on: August 21, 2006, 03:35:55 AM »
Oh wow! Owned my 7D for one year on August 17 !!! Logged between 26K and 27K pictures with the 7D! :)

I take it EVERYWHERE. We travel some, we camp, I like to fish, we have grandkids and I sell a few commercial photos. I shoot a lot and get a few decent images for the albums, to sell and for my own enjoyment. In addition to traveling a lot with me at home, the 7D has been to Mexico and China. It has logged about 75,000 air and ground kilometers.

I think I am taking better pictures now than at any time in my life and I owe that to the 7D which has allowed me to shoot a lot, learn and improve.

The good, the bad and the ugly of it all ...

THE GOOD
-- Great image quality
-- Low noise
-- Fast shooting, although I'd like 5 fps.
-- Generally great focus (see below)
-- Anti shake
-- Great external controls
-- Built like Catherine Zeta-Jones .. woohoo. :)

THE BAD AND UGLY
-- Poor focus in low light (I don't have D lenses....they help low light focus, right?)
-- Kit came with a 2500 flash which is not even a good doorstop. Was not calibrated or whatever and simply does not work on my 7D.

OVERALL RATING
I've owned SLRs for 38 years and owned my own cameras for 47 years -- since age 12.

THIS IS THE MOST FUN AND ENJOYMENT I HAVE EVER HAD WITH A CAMERA.

9 OF 10.

THE FUTURE

I have five Minolta lenses and don't want to jump ship. I am looking forward to the Sony a200 (or whatever) which will be the upgrade of the a100 with 10+ MP, magnesium alloy body, external dials and hopefully 5 fps. Something as solid as the 7D. (I don't care about brand names .. Minolta is dead and that's fine. Life goes on. Sony is okay with me provided they "come across.")

If Sony fails with this, I will reluctantly switch to Nikon (I have two Nikons already: P&S digital and P&S underwater film.)

Cheers!

Great post Clive :)

I've had my 5D much less time, but so far I'm enjoying it as much as you're enjoying the 7D. I wonder if I'll manage as many shots in 12 months as you have!

I only wish mine would log that many kms (and take me with it)!

Bought mine in December 2004.
Will be two years for me this December.
