I meant this:

B. Photoshop Elements
  • Unclick the 'auto' on the mrw (raw editor)

I've got the auto conversion permanently switched off. I don't use the DiMage software (never installed it), but use Adobe Camera Raw almost all the time*

I usually shoot RAW+JPG, and use the JPG if I'm happy with it, or work on the raw for important shots or ones where I'm unhappy with the in-camera conversion

* My workflow:

1. CF Card -> card reader, copy contents to temp folder on the desktop
2. Launch Adobe Bridge, run the Import from Camera script (free from Peter Krogh's excellent www.theDAMbook.com website, which does the following:
     i.  renames the files: MJF_YYYYMMDD_####.ext (MJF=my initials, then date, then the 4 digit pic # from the original filename;
     ii. applies metadata (full copyright information, etc)
     iii. copies to archive location (eg Photos>2007 01) on an external HDD drive
3. look through the photos, delete the cr@p ones, sometimes rate the good ones (I'm inconsistent on this)
3a. in theory, apply keywords (I have yet to get this system going, but intend to)
4. Still working in Bridge, open MRW files into Camera Raw if the JPG in unsatisfactory or it's a VIP photo, perform manual adjustments, and save TIF + JPG versions with _ADJ added to the filename

I've never really used the Tint slider (frankly I don't really know what it does)

Sounds like a good work flow. I've never looked into Adobe Bridge. For all I knew prior to the last five minutes of my life thus far, it could have been a specialised engineering program. I assume it's a program that needs to be bought, and not shareware.

I only add 'file info' on the ones I intend to use, ie: as I work on it in Elements or PhotoShop

It comes with Photoshop CS2 (earlier versions had a browser that was more integrated)

Oh!  But also available through theDambook website, is a freeware (for now) program called Image Ingester. It's a standalone, and does everything that Import from camera did, but is more up to date (it's developed by the same guy).  I've tried it, and it's good, just that working within bridge still works for me

ah, latest update of image ingester was yesterday!
