Live DJ photoshoot
« on: May 26, 2008, 06:42:23 PM »
Hi All.. New to the forum & to my camera and although Im slowly working out how to use it through experimentation & manuals.. Im looking for some quick advice! :)

Im going to a club to take photos of some DJ's while doing their sets.. Can anybody tell me what settings are best to use on my camera to get decent quality shots?

Not really sure what extra info to give - Environment will be typical club lighting surrounding.. probably very little lighting on the DJ's themselves.. & continuous subject movement of course.

I wont be able to use the flash or a tripod for the majority of the shots.. but I will be able to take a few with the tripod (dont know if someone can recommend dif settings for both or if they can be the same?)

Would also love to do a few shots with some effects (there are always a few dif coloured lights on the tech equipment they use) any ideas on how to create things like that?

Really appreciate any suggestions.

Lucienne x

the last time i shot a DJ was because the music was crap,  sorry had to say it :) now that over and done with. Welcome to the forum; what sought of results do you want the are 4 basic types of Image that spring to mind

HIGH ISO using nateral light
Longer exposure
Flash to freeze the movement
Slow flash sync (a mixture of all 3) e.g

Exposure:     4 sec (4)
Aperture:    f/5
Focal Length:    60 mm
ISO Speed:    1600
Flash:    Flash fired
