Title: A thought on using manual S and A with auto ISO to obtain correct exposure
Post by: retoohs on June 10, 2014, 03:59:30 PM
Ok as far as I know this doesn't work but I was using my 80-200 shooting hang gliders and wanted a shallow dof using f3.2 and a fast shutter speed around 1/1200. As I followed them in the sky the light changed depending where the camera was pointed in relation to the sun. I had it on S priority set at 1/1200 so of course the f-stop value kept changing. I was thinking it would be good if I could set the F-stop and shutter speed manually to 3.2 and 1/1200 and the ISO to auto where the ISO would change to give correct exposure. Would a mode like this be possible?

I think you mean Auto ISO in M mode. Yes this is possible only with a few cameras from Sony.
a99-a77II and a6000 so far. this is very convenience and before Sony introduce this i thought it was useless but now after a99 and a6000 is a must for me.

Thanks Rex, yes Auto ISO is exactly what I meant. I have the A99 and now will be out trying it tomorrow. Cool, I will find it very useful.

Seems to work well but only been able to review the shots on my camera as of yet. Away today with work for 2 days but will post some images when I get back. It was late in the day and I set the shutter at 1/1250 and F at 3.5 and because light was so low in some directions set maximum ISO at 6400 though most shots it was auto set a lot lower. Definitely going to experiment with this more
