Wide angle lens hood
« on: May 26, 2017, 09:37:15 PM »
I have purchased two wide angle lens hoods from eBay and I get vignetting with my 18-55 kit lens at 18mm. Any suggestions?

These third party lens hoods are not designed to work with specific lenses. If it is the rubber type you can easily cut a bit off the front of the cap to shorten it as the problem is simply that it is too long and is intruding into the cone of light being gathered by the lens. As the focal length increases, say to 22mm, the vignetting may go away, however the lens cap will no longer be so effective at increased focal lengths where fortunately it is less or no longer required.

Thanks for your reply. I have both a metal and collapsible type. I will try trimming the rubber one. The vignetting disappears at around 22 mm.

Thank you. I trimmed off a little and that has solved the problem.
