Sony A700 - DRO Really Useful or Not Yet Matured?
« on: June 19, 2014, 01:34:57 AM »
In a previous post I alluded to my a700 oversaturation issues which I then solved by turning DRO off and shooting only in P, A, S,M either in Standard or Vivid Mode. In my case, I like landscapes so I used A Priority.

I  bought a used a700 a few weeks ago but I am wondering that perhaps the DRO technology had not really matured enough at the time the a700 was introduced to provide accurate rendition of colors or certain scenes without photographer intervention.

Have most of you turned DRO off? When did you actually use it?

Finally, have you used other alpha cameras where DRO in use was spot on or more fully developed? Are DRO issues specific to the a700 or all Sony Alphas with DRO?

I know the camera has many options but it seems like many people have been inclined to turn them off but then again the true photographer, I am just a hobbyist, shoots with as little help as possible so I have been told.

Your comments would be appreciated.

I use DRO now and again, I find it very useful when shooting in low light conditions, recently inside aircraft at an air museum, it helps to blend things in, but there is an increase in noise levels.

hope this is of use to you, now going off on my holidays and back next Monday

edit: here is one taken on the A700, with the Tamron 17-50 lens at f2.8 ISO 800
