Title: Best travel camera
Post by: retoohs on August 30, 2014, 11:27:11 PM
When I travel I want to take my best gear and get the best shots possible. My present kit is A99, 16-35/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8 and Minolta 100/2.8 Macro. It's heavy and I can't insure it for travel without mortgaging the house. I'm looking at two options but both have flaws. I either buy a travel lens ( recommendations welcome ) or I buy something like a RX1 which I live but stuck with one lens though it would suit most the travel shots I take. I mainly use the 24-70 at present. I would love to head what others use or your thoughts.
Thanks
Alan

Alan, Like you I use the A99 with mostly 2 lenses- the 24-70 CZ and the 70-300G.
For an ole fella they are getting heavy - particularly the 24-70 and my wife was suggesting a lighter camera for street work.  She has an A55 and uses 1 lens only the 18-250 Sony.
She accepts the shortcomings and has refused all offers of higher quality lenses as being too heavy.
I have been idly looking at the mirrorless line-up.  Not sure I would go for your RX1 but one of the others in the range- A7, A6000
Wave a flag at Rex- he may suggest one of the A7's- There are three of them and I have yet to get my head around the difference...... john
