A700 - problem - pulsing sound, not able to take picture
« on: December 13, 2015, 02:54:09 PM »
Hi all,
My A700 has recently developed a fault. It started intermittently but is now constant and preventing me from using the camera.
There is a gentle pulsing at regular half second intervals. It sound/feels like focusing mechanism but the lens does not focus, the pulsing is just in the camera body.
The other symptom is that the MF indicator is constantly showing even though the focus mode switch is in AF mode.
Another point I've notice is that the pulsing is constant regardless of what I'm doing. If I try to use the menu, it is extremely slow.
I have checked/cleaned the lens contacts on the camera and lens. The lens is being detected by the camera and the problem happens with all lenses.

Hi flash68 and welcome to the forum.

Sorry I can't help give any assistance as to what the problem could be but I get the impression from your description it will be 'terminal' - I'd guess at being too costly to have Sony repair it - f repairable! - and you'd be better off spending those funds on a replacement camera body. :(

Sorry.

Welcome flash68.  I have an A700 (now my back-up body) and have not experienced any problems.  I could take a guess based on your description and suggest the anti shake mechanism is mis behaving,  Have you tyried switching it off and see what happens?  ...john
