A580 shutter/aperture setting problem
« on: April 13, 2015, 04:19:09 PM »
Problem is that when adjusting the shutter speed the speed displayed will move a few times then bounces back to the starting point. eg the shutter is now at 30  secs and when I mover the setting I can goals far as 1/6 second then  on the next adjustment it bounces back to 30 seconds. A similar problem happens with f numbers. If Itry to move the shutter speed quickly it wil not even move one shutter speed setting Ie it bounces back to 30 secs immediately.
Ithought maybe the camera had got damp inside but a couple of days on a radiator has not cured it. The  battery is a Sony original.
Any ideas please about what the problem is and is it possible to cure it?
I will be grateful for any help. Really want to keep my A580 as it suits you needs very well and so far has  performed well.
Jeff

it could be a problem with the scroll wheel on the front, maybe spraying some kind of lubricant on it might help, not sure what kind though, but some one on here may help with that

!!!......NO LUBRICANT......!!!

Just blow compress air with straw . Make it flat and put it under the wheel and while rotating back and forth the wheel blow the compress air.

Good luck

Another option is electrical contact cleaner - used in the same manner as Rex has suggested for air.

Be very cautious not to use too much, and have a piece of kitchen towel (or similar) to soak up any xs, but certainly does cure similar problems reported on both A700 and A900 control dials - this is what I used for my A900 when it started showing the problem.

It is difficult to explain to white mice that black cats are lucky...
