A550 - Wireless Remote (HELP PLEASE)
« on: March 15, 2015, 03:59:52 PM »
So I bought a cheap wireless remote for my A550 (I have a wired remote but the wireless one was cheap so I thought why not)

It arrived yesterday and I tried it with the camera and it did nothing, didn't seem to be communicating at all.  I went through the menus on the camera just to see if I could see an IR or equivalent function that needed to be turned on for the camera to receive info from the remote but there didn't seem to be anything.

Have I got a dodgy remote or have I missed something obvious?

I would tell you the brand of the remote but it seems to be un branded.

Cheers guys

No offense meant, I am thinking you have done the usual checks such as;

You've followed the instructions in the manual (page 112) for setting up the 'Remote Commander' and any instructions that came with it? The manual is available as a downloadable PDF file if you don't have a copy: Search for Sony A550 manual. All it shows is what looks like a dial O, pointer at 11 o'clock, and 'continuous frames' symbol button - remote commander icon. That may help for now?

There's no small plastic tag to be pulled out so that the contacts can be made? Sometimes the tags can't be easily seen.

It does have a battery in it and the battery is charged?

You've tried a new battery?

If you've done all of that then the remote must be faulty and needs to be returned for a replacement or refund. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

'If' you want to input some emoticons, like the above, there use to be a list available on how to 'make' them... think there are also some 'old' posts somewhere in the forum... just to get you started, but you may know these already:

Be careful with the cordless ones if it is a one time only shoot.  I received one with the A700 but only used it once.  From distant memory, you have to be in front of the camera for it to work....john
