*new guy* What happens when you drop an A200.....?
« on: April 22, 2009, 08:16:36 PM »
Hi All,

I've been around for a while, but I've never posted. But today I dropped my A200 from a height of about 3 feet (my bag wasn't shut properly) and it made quite a thud. Does anyone know what is likely to have broken? I've already noticed the SSS is stuffed, and the CCD appears to be off some way to the right, and AF appears to be a little broken too. Does anyone know anything else that is sensitive that may be broken that I haven't noticed? It wouldn't have been so bad, but my 50/1.4 was on it at the time, so I have a friend testing this out for me, I'm more concerned about the lens that then body really.

Also, does anyone know how much it'd cost to repair it as a rough idea? I'm pretty gutted.

Thanks everyone....

First welcome to the forum- good to have you here. Not soo good though your news! What a bummer! It is very difficult for anyone of us I suspect to give you a long distance diagnosis about what might have gone wrong with your camera. There are soo many electronics in there that it would be a pure guessing game what might or might not have gone broke. Unfortunately by the sound of it though... and that's bad news... I suspect that the repair costs (sss being stuffed and ccd off...) will be higher than getting a new camera. Now perhaps you should immediately check your home insurance- they might cover accidental breakage?
Good luck with it- what a bummer!!!

Yeah, although I think I took out some kind of warranty when I bought it although I can't remember the details. Damn my memory!

I would suspect also that the cost of repair would outweigh the cost of a replacement, so would be checking house insurance as Stef says.

The number for Sony's central service centre in wales is 08702408060
may be worth giving them a call to see if they can give you a rough price for repair.
