If you own one camera then the a65/77 can do anything you can imagine. But if you own already a65/77 & a850/900 then i separate the purpose for each camera. The a77 is my easy shooting, sports, birds etc and if i want landscape, portrait etc then a900 is in use.

The same is with Canon. If you want sports, bird in fly etc then you go for the 7D.
If you shoot landscape, portrait etc then 5D is the way to go.

The same is with Nikon D300 and FF D700 and the upcoming FF D800 with the D400.

If you can wait until February before you go and buy the A850 it will come out the new a99 at the range of Nikon D800 and Canon 5D III. It is up to you the decision, good luck.

I would go in the shop and give both a try. You need to hold them and play around with them. I am not sure about what will be released and when in 2012... So far we have only rumors...Nikon has NOT mentioned a word re the long awaited D4 or D800. The only thing that is pretty sure is that Canon is coming out with the D1x and that will cost you $6000+

I am not stepping into the dark zone of caninkons. No way. I am already wedded to SONY Alpha and would be faithful to it ;-) . No qualms. When I went to India for my bro-in-law's wedding the official photgrapher shot the same scene with my A200+kit lens and Canon 400D and some beefy lens. He was blown away by the result of my SONY.

I'd give both A850 and A65 a try if they have. So far only one shop in S'pore has confirmed me the price of the two.

I didn't mean you go to Canikon. Just to wait for the Sony a99 which will be FF like the competitors and maybe one step ahead from them at the same price

At Singapore now. Wow, what a change as compared to Abu Dhabi!!

A77 is not available in the market. Perhaps people have gone to grab A65 as A77 is out of stock that one of the biggest shopping mall (Mustafa Centre) here said no stock of A65 too. A850 and A900 available. Is dearer by SG$200 compared to the quote I got from Cathay Photo. Have to look for that shop in the next day or two. Night shots are coming out good with NEX5. Sooooo....... A850??????

Hehe, just go and hold it in your hands with a lens attached and see how it feels. If you like the weight and you have some good full frame lenses then I do believe you can not do anything wrong with a full frame camera.
Just give it a proper try.

Re: "Upgrade ghost" is haunting me - MERRY CHRISTMAS

Those who haven't been to S'pore make your next vacation here. In a small area so many things to see and your camera is going to cry 'leave me alone' :-). Had been to Jurong Bird Park here today. What a place. A tropical rain forest you can say. And what colourful birds!!!

Downloaded the shots of NEX 5 and it gave me some very good photos of decorations in a mall with the Handheld Twilight mode. Though a bit diffcult for me to use due to lack of a VF very convenient camera. Only thing that the 18-200 lens is very expensive.

Yet to go to that camera shop. Today holiday being Sunday and Christmas.

Belated though WISH YOU ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS

Finally returned from S'pore empty handed with regards to the new camera but with some very good photos with my A200 and the lenses I have and my wife's NEX5 did well in lowlight.

Unless I went to a retailer than SONY shops there wasn't any gain as compared to Dubai and there wasn't any time for shopping after sight seeing all day for four days. That way I "exorcised the A850 upgrade ghost". Now no chance for getting A850 unless I spent a camera's cost and go back there :-(

Maybe later would go in for A580 and get it from BH Photo from the US. Poor we in the Middle East, this wonderful camera was not released here. Or would A77 be a better overall choice (I can get it here locally).

Your trips sounds grand! Glad you had a nice vacation.

Clive..

SONY is very choosy (or cunning) here in the ME. They do not give many options to us.

They did not release A580.

They sell Alphas mostly bundled with the kit lens. Perhaps only A900 (and earlier A500) is sold body alone. I came to know that like it or not (to spend money) I have to get A77 with the kit lens. I already have the wonderful CZ 1680 so one has to sit in the cupboard if I got A77 here. Some kind of road block any side I turn :-(

Subbu, in this particular case I would be very happy to get the combo of the A77 with the Sony 16-50mm f2.8. IMHO this lens is not at all a kit lens! You get it much cheaper when you buy it as a combo then should you decide to get it later on. I have both, the CZ 16-80mm and the above "kit" lens and while they certainly have similar focal length they are two very different lenses. I use my 16-50mm lens as a walk around lens, particularly if th weather is not too good. It is weather sealed AND it is very quiet which is vital for video shooting. It is also the faster lens with a constant f2.8.

Stef, after I switched off the PC last night I thought of asking you the question about the 16-50 lens as compared to CZ1680 as you own both. You have answered it without asking and made me inch closer to A77 :-) . May be for b'day in Feb. Thank you Stef.

Main issue getting A580 from abroad is warranty. There is a Stagemax warranty available from BH PHoto but I'm not sure how it works outside the US especially in the UAE.
