Thanks guys, Goonbird, Rand47, went to the Sony shop on George 5, they helped by sending me to their authorized workshop, the guy checked it out in less than a minute he came back removing the major particles, still some small bits are there. The good news I can use the camera now with less hastle, the bad news is that when I tried to clean the dust off, I damaged the silver mirror The one under the prism by making according to him irremovable marks, hence the need to change it is not a must as it does not effect the picture, but the marks are visible in the view finder (still good news till now as I used the camera heavily today.

As soon as I get back I need to take it to Sony for repair. If Sony is planning to come out with a a900 replacement they better do so fast in case a purchase is unavoidable. Anyway for the record the a900 here in Sony France is going for 2,499/- Euros whereasnthe a850 is around 1,899/- Euros.

Glad  you're back in business for now.  As irritating as the marks visible in the viewfinder are, at least it isn't the sensor glass cover that is damaged - and your images should look fine.

Glad you were able to get some help there in Paris.  I figured that in a big city, it shouldn't be that hard to find a store who does sensor cleaning.  I'll bet there are more photographs taken in Paris than any other city in the world!  :-)

Good to hear you are back on the road again, happy shooting! The price for the 850 is hefty, I bought mine one week back (current rate) 1,440 Euros.

After a wonderful day shooting historical places, a sorry event happened, we had to take two taxis to fit 8 people, my son wanted to help so he took from the camera bag with everything in it, the un-thinkable happened the group he was in forgot the whole bag in the cab and we cannot trace him, more than USD 12,000/- worth of stuff is in that bag. particularly three Carl Zeis lenses 24-70, 135 & 16-35, in addition to a full set of Cokin Filters and rings, two Sony flash guns, different release cables/wireless, memory cards, Sigma 75-300, Tripod, Tamrac bag and many more accessories and of course he a900 gripped(Sony of course).

Some friends promissed to follow on it with the respective authorities as I have to depart to Spain within 48 hours and the authorities of returned items from Taxis will only be open or even the Taxi driver will be able to take there only on Monday 19th. Otherwise it would be a total loss.

What an unforgettable trip... for all the wrong reasons. I'm sorry to hear of all of this. I've been following the earlier parts of this thread, as I'm sure that the same thing will happen to me one day, but this latest... I hope your friends are able to help get your gear back.

Gosh ... you are being followed by a jinx .. Check the link below, I am not sure if it covers all companies as there are close to 15,000 taxi's in Paris. But the leastest thing you could try is to call them and report the missing.

http://www.paris-on-line.com/eng/turisme/transport_dins_taxi.htm

If it was found by the taxi driver there is still a good change that it has been brought back to their central dispatch office. Inshya-Allah you will get it back ..

Than guys, this is what we are doing, some friends are going to check the place first thing on Monday, hopefully we will have it back. When things are destined to go wrong they will. Any how not much can be done other than that wait and wish for the best. I just tried to see if the worst happens how much will it cost me to re-equip, it ran more than USD 10,000 without a bag and tripod. Keeping fingers crossed.

If to don't get it back hopefully you have some insurance that cover at least some of it. Here in the US some could come under home owners.

Thanks Tom, unfortunately not, no insurance, as companies where I am at will charge a premium for it that makes it less attractive. But you are right if I was anywhere else I would have had it under my house insurance.

The idea and concept are very much worth exploring further depending on the outcome of the situation on Monday.

How unfortunate.  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed (good luck in the USA) that you are able to recover the equipment.  Sometimes in life, all we can do is be thankful for our lives, health, loved ones, and the blessings that keep us from living in poverty.... and then just let the rest of it roll by.

Best wishes for "all of that" and your equipment being returned safe and sound.

Like french people say 'C'est la vie' ... but in this case the saying is too much ...

I really hope that the bag and all equipment will be found. My fingers are also crossed.
