Need Your Help
« on: October 20, 2011, 03:37:35 AM »
I just purchased the A900 and CZ 24-70 Zoom lense. I very happy with my purchase. I dont want to use the Sony flash on camera. I want to use my Nikon SB24, Is there an adaptor to put on the hot shoe? Also. I sometimes use the flash on a bracket and would also buy an adaptor that goes from the hot shoe to the bracket hot shoe?  Thank you very much.  vetteman
Also, if it exists where can I buy it.

There are probably many of them but here is one
You are no doubt aware that TTL will not work with an alien flash and you will have to use manual...john

Rather than trying to manage with a flash designed in the 80's for different camera system in all honesty you'd do far better to get a Sony flash.

I thought you were wanting to put your Nikon flashgun on a Sony hot shoe? However if you want to use the Metz 60CTI (I've got one of those somewhere) then just use a Metz Sync Cable 45-49 to your a900.

LOL, yeah, I remember the battery pack. I mod it by attaching a belt clip piece using the tripod screw hole on the bottom just so it wouldn't bulldoze things over.
I sympathize with you but you do realize the F58AM has GN of 58 compared to the Metz's 60, optional high voltage pack is 1/8 the size and weight of the Metz pack, TTL/ADI, wireless (well, you need at least 2 for the A900), build-in bounce card, head turns 90 degrees for vertical shots etc.
Just checking LOL.

I hate to spend the $$ for the Sony flash. You are saying that the guide # is close to that of the Metz 60 CT1?
If I do buy the Sony flash how can I mount it on a bracket and shoot? Will I need an adaptor cord? Thank you, vetteman

I also use to older Nikon SB24 and LOVE them. How could I use them on the bracket as well with the A900?
Thats the reason for wanting to buy a hot shoe adaptor and one with the coil cord that mounts on the Sony Hot shoe and on my bracket so I can attach any hot shoe flash.

Yes, GN 58 is very close to 60 for the Metz. With 4AA batteries it recycles pretty fast and with power pack (6 more AA) even faster.
What do you need the bracket for? Is it the stroboframe type so you can position the flash above and flip it for vertical shot? The F58AM and the new F43AM can flip their flash head 90degree left or right so the shadow (even bounch) would have correct orientation instead of coming from the side like old shoe mount flashes.

There are off camera cables if you want. (cheaper ones on eBay)

All kind of hot shoe adapters here (again, cheaper ones on eBay)

Thank you all. I am using a Custom Bracket that allows me to rotate the camera Horiz and Vertical and the flash stays stationary. Thats the reason I am looking for the sony adaptor to other brand flash( NOT Sonys flash)  I like shooting with a bracket with flash. The lighting is nicer higher up and I use a Bounce card as well( A big bounce card) It gives me great lighting. Thanks again, vetteman
