Title: immediate advice wanted
Post by: didispeed on December 26, 2011, 09:08:10 PM
Hi,

I have an opportunity to buy an alpha 850 with 24-70 cz for 1000 euro,
the camera is 2 years old as is the lens.

Help, I have the alpha 200 (which I would sell) and a alpha 700

Help as in you want us to talk you out of it? :-)

Looks like you would want to sell any DT only lenses too (like the 16-80CZ).
If you love optical view finder than this deal is a no brainer (if in good shape) since the next FF alpha more than likely is EVF. There has been talk about at least one last FF with OVF but......
Isn't the lens alone about 1000 euro new?

Hi

Alpha a850 body: 2000 euro in Belgium
24-70 f2.8 CZ: 1795 euro in Belgium

I love the use of an optical viewfinder, it looks stupid looking at a screen on a DSLR camera

Didi, sorry but I will not talk you out of this, I have also the feeling that you know the answer and that you have already decided...;) I do not know what the current second hand price for it is but it does sound like a good price? I would ho for one, no doubt. You have to be aware though that the CZ and the Sigma wide angle lens will not work properely on this full frame camera. You also need to be aware that the full frame combo will be much heavier than what you own right now. Full frame cameras require very good lenses, i.e. corner sharpness that is not so important with your current cameras, will be become an issue. You need to also take into account that your lenses are suddenly exactly what they say on their barrel...so no longer multiplication by 1.5. If you use the tele end of your zooms a lot you will need longer lenses or crop to achieve the same results. If you can keep on of youir APS size cameras for back up and lighter travel. I assume you would not get much for the A200 anyhow :( so you might just keep it.

Providing the camera and lens is in good condition then that is a hell of a good price.
As Stef says, its not a light camera and lens to carry around so id keep one of the two camera's that you have. Depending on finances of course.

Sorry, I missed the part that you have the A700 so you don't have to sell anything except the A200.

For that price i wouldn't wait 1 minute if as Rob said camera and lens are in good condition. How many actuation have the shutter? OK no way to know only by Sony service but if its from a firend and you know him good you can trust him what he says!

Sounds like an excellent chance to go full frame, with the usual provisos of course.

Hi,
It is not from a friend.
For the shutter use, if I take a picture and check the imagenumber, then I know
how many times it was used. I guess.
He says it is in very good condition.
I found another one, Alpha 900 with 16-80 CZ for 999 euro
Lens is cheaper, I'll keep that one in mind, and go for the a850 with the better CZ lens.
But the guy isn't responding on my mails. Is he on holiday? sick? I don't know,
I'm getting nervous here.

Didi, just be careful with the lens. the CZ 16-80 is NOT for full frame.

Hi,

The more I think about it, the more it looks "to good to be true", I got a mail back from the other one I was looking at
(the a900 with 16-80 CZ) and it was in English, saying that he opened a pet store in London, I could not meet,
had to work together with the shipment company, send the money, and so on, so on. I don't thrust this,
so I made an abuse thread to 2dehands.be where I found the a900. I really hope that the a850 is for real
and that I can go and get it soon, but my hope is fading, I think I will have to stick with my brilliant a700
(maybe buy a second one or the new a580 who knows?)
