I was very DISAPPOINTED!!
« on: October 11, 2008, 11:40:43 PM »
After waiting for a very long time for A900, I hold the camera last week. By my surprise, I found the grip was bigger than the grip of Minolta Dynax 7, my current film camera. As a result barely I was able to grab it in my hand, although my fingers were not able to hold it completely. Unfortunately the Sony Manufacturer DID NOT put the hand wrist, otherwise I could hold that grip with hand wrist.
Now, I have two choices:
1) Sell all of my Minolta System and go for Canon EOS 5D, or
2) wait till somebody in Sony RECOGNIZE that not many photographers have a big hands, then try to bring the new models with a smaller grip similar to Minolta Dynax 7.

NOW, I wonder has anybody has the same feeling about the grip of this new camera?
Also I wonder if anybody has a solution for my problem about holding the grip?

Please help me and write your feeling or suggestions.

kombizz, a DISAPPOINTED photographer!!!

I don't know about the a900, but yes, when I moved from the Maxxum 7 to the a700, that is the very first thing I noticed.  The grip was bigger on the a700.

I got used to it, and now I love it.

To be honest I'm not surprised a camera effectively following the 9 series would be larger than the (film) Dynax 7.

I think you'd find it very manageable with a hand strap (I always use a hand strap on my cameras).
Sony now call them Grip Belts: STP-GB1AM

Not sure what you mean by ''the grip was bigger' as I tried it the other day and immediately thought I'd need the vertical grip to make it big enough to be comfortable.

it is only slightly bigger then the A700 and is a 9 series camera. It has to be bigger as it has a larger sensor, 2x noise reduction chips also a  larger prism and viewfinder. It is only natural that it will be bigger if you look at that they have to pack inside the camera.
