Hi - my name is David and I have been a complete arse!
Ignore ALL of my previous rants regarding the 700 and the 900, I purposefully left the 700 at home for the weekends classic car shoot and gave myself an intensive learning course on shooting with it in Manual, this is what I found:
The 900 is EASILY capable of handling motor sport events, the only downsides that I can see are that it EATS MEMORY like you wouldn't believe, partly because I take a lot of shots and ALL in RAW - this weekend I took 2270 photo's and kept 1219 of them, it would have been more kept but I am finding that I am now getting more fussy and some that before I would of happily saved I am now deleting - being 'brutal' is a must for this kind of event. The other 'problem' (if you can call it that) is that now I have got my head around just using the Manual setting I find it hard to use anything else, this in itself throws up a problem with sports - the suns out then it's behind a cloud, then it's dark grey and then light, which means I am constantly changing the settings from one shot to another which can be frustrating but also very rewarding, little things like no auto iso so when it get's darker it's down to you to change.
I will post up a couple of my favourite shots once I have finished going through them all again and have uploaded them to my gallery (shame we can't upload here direct from our PC's) I have had a real blast and I'm so glad that I took your advise (you know who you are) and gave the 900 another go and also that I gave myself no other option by leaving the 700 at home.
THANK YOU all again
