Highlight exposure - snow
« on: January 21, 2009, 07:29:41 PM »
I tested the a900 in slightly diffused light on fresh snow.  No surprises here.

It indicates that highlight exposure with discernible surface detail (in the snow) is at +2.

ISO 200, 1/800, f/4 (135 f/1.8) metered at brightest spot for +2.0.

At +2.3, the exposure is "correct" from a histogram POV, but detail in the snow is all but washed out.

ISO 200, 1/500, f/4 (135 f/1.8) [note light was changing, metered at same spot as above (0006) @ +2.3]

In more direct, setting sun, light (yesterday, crop).

Cheers,
Alan.
