Availability?
« on: October 08, 2008, 10:20:51 PM »
Anybody knows when the A900 will be available in US or Canada? Just looked at B&H and they have not even October but only Novemeber as estimated delivery date! Just wondering is it always soo late here in Noth America? People in Europe seem to have it already?

That's kind of the same rollout they had with TAMRON lenses.  Weird, huh?

I have no idea if SONY Style stores will even carry these Full Frame cameras.

Sonystyle shops at least here in Canada will carry the A900 as you can pre-order through them.

I thought when they announced the a900, they said available from November. To be honest I'm confused as to how people in some places have them already... as far as I know, they're not on the shelves down under, either

Henry's in Ontario is taking Pre-Orders for A900 body only at $3299.99CAD and A900 W/ZEISS 24-70 F2.8 at $5099.99CAD as are sonystyle.ca

They have also reduced the price of the A700 Body only to #1149.99CAD as have sonystyle.ca.

The advantage of dealing with Henry's is that they may make a deal if you buy other things like lenses or vertical grip. I am sorely tempted.

Tempted by the A900 and/or the A700. However I don't think I can justify the A900, perhaps if I was making a living out of it, or at least selling some pics, it would be an easier decision. Also it may start another round of upgrading, faster computer, higher quality lenses Etc. No knowing where it would end. :D

I have a feeling that the A700 may be replaced within, say, the next year and am reluctant to buy into one. My 7D is now repaired and is working fine, so I may just keep my money and watch what happens in the coming year.

Interesting that it is after Europe - Cameraword in London had them in the shop almost two weeks ago!  The A700 was available in the states before you could get it over here.

AScot...NOW is the time for an A700...prices have crashed. Saw an A700 with a kit lens for $1,299 today. That puts the body at about $1K. (It is $1149 at London Drugs, but I bet can be had cheaper.) I paid (what?) $1,600 for the body..but I also had a grand year and have no regrets whatsoever.

I just can't see the need for a 24 MP FF right now. Consider the results we are getting with the A700. Beyond my needs already.

I will wait as well. My guess is that the A900 will go down in price and as said before I am still waiting for more reviews. I also think that Sony has something up their sleeve regarding the professional model... Finally it would mean I would have to pay for a new lens in the range 24-70mm as well as neither the Tamron 1750 nor the CZ1680 is full frame...

Stef,

Have you had a chance to look at the 24-105mm f/3.5-4.5 ... I have the KM version and it seems like it covers the bill.  Obviously, it is nowhere near the cost of of the CZ 24-70 f/2.8, but it could be a possible solution until you muster up the big bucks, eh?

DonSchap- if I buy the A900 and it is a big if! than I would go for the very best lens on the market or you can save yourself the money on the camera in the first place at least in my opinion. I think the prices will tumble very quickly for the A900. I also firmly believe the have another camera up their sleeve or why would they so desperately try to convince us that the A900 is not aimed at professionals but more at semi-professionals? We'll see and as said the A700 produces superb results and I have to use Canikons regularly anyhow so if I need 20+mps I can. At the moment the A900 is not even out here so the discussion is slightly irrelevant anyhow ;)

Stef - to make you jealous I had one in my hands yesterday at cameraworld and they had the VG in stock.  Unfortunately they hadn't charged the battery but looked through the view finder and it was exceptionally clear and felt very confortable up to the eye, but as usual for me it was too small without the VG.  Worked out at £2,100 for the both so will wait to see if there is a drop in price with the economic conditions at present.

Fud- I think this is very wise to wait. After xmas it is probably much cheaper if you can wait that long ;) It just easily sums up to more than 3000 ounds or here morethan 5000 Can $ with VG and 24-70mm CZ and as said so far I am just not convinced yet that a) I need and want the file size and b) the quailty is any better than the A700. I also don't need the wide angle side of lenses more the longer end. I wait until there is a review that compares the images from the A700 with the one from the A900.
