a900 & Tube Extension
« on: January 24, 2010, 03:35:17 PM »
I had a chance to borrow extension tubes made by Kenko, tried them on my a900 and CZ 24-70 which was with me then. I was trying to shoot with it in full manual, but was unable to get a focus, piece by piece or all together. Any idea if they work or not on a900, or is it because it is FF it will not work properly, i am only speculating here.

Sarie- extesnion tubes work fine on the A900- I use them regularly with my macro lens. To achieve focus is tricky though. Put the camera onto a tripod and focus manually to the closest point and then move the subject around in front of your lens. The focue point is usually very very close to your lens (!) It also depends obviously how many extension tubes you use. It takes quite a bit of practising and IMHO the 24-70mm lens is not the ideal lens for this. Try a prime or macro lens instead.
Hope it works.

Thanks Stef, will give it a shot. I do not have a dedicated Macro Lens, but will try it with my Sony 50mm f/1.4 prime. What was strange though using one of the extensions on my Sony a380 and the Sigma 70-300 lens it worked fine. I zoomed in and the result was fine (thinking about I am confused was it the zoom power or the Kenko power I saw).

Stef - you were right (like always), it does not work with the CZ 24-70 well. I tried another prime lenses Sony 50mm f1.4 and a zoom lens, the Sony 55-200, with one tube and all on. It worked perfectly well with the camera. Once again thanks for the guidance & support.
