A900 price
« on: September 07, 2009, 01:12:52 PM »
I know everyone's quite concerned about the price of the A850, but here's what's happening in Japan. The A900 is now available for 265,000 yen (about 1,700 pounds), and that's down from Y328,000 in March. That, to me, is a very significant drop.

[speculation] Clearing stock to make room for A850 release in Japan (still no word on the Sony Japan website about the new cameras). I also noticed that a Nikon D3 was for sale for 1,100,000 yen (about 7,000 pounds), and I think that's up from their initial release price. I also noticed the size difference between the two, the D3 is much bigger than the little A900. [more_speculation] A850 as well as an A1000 to be eventually released? [/speculation + hopeful dreams]  :D

Probably supply and demand.  If the 850 is more expensive and people are reading the great reviews its been getting, doesnt take much for them to realise its worth stepping up to the 900.

My opinion anyway.

I don't know what this means, but it seems that the a900 to a certain extent loosing on the pricing ground. Am I right or wrong in my assumption.

Sarie all sites i looked is out of stock. Now i am in big dilemma, shall i invest to a850/900 or shall i wait until the end of summer.

If a new body is coming is going to cost around 2500-3000 euros. If i invest now the a850 is 1690 euro and a900 out of stock ;)

Is it so the case, that a new body is coming and hence the out of stock status on the a900? The other thing is that support is coming to the a850 and not to the a900. If you are not in a hurry I would say wait and see what the new model has to offer if any, maybe, this is what they are trying to do get rid of the existing stock of a850, then launch the new one and make the a900 as the second tier. Just a thought, too many ifs but possible ;).

There seem to be quite a few a900 bodies in stock at UK outlets. A quick Google search found 7 at least. Obviously I've not gone through each retailer's checkout procedure to be really sure but on the surface there appear to be plenty about in the UK.

Today to sellers told me that a900 is discontinued, and that a850 will remain. One of them also told me that a new model is coming to replace a900. I'm about to buy a850 or a900, but now maybe I wait a little.

Cheers

Well, that explains why no firmware updates have been issued, why and what is wrong with the a900, so that it is discontinued and the a850 succeeded in making it. What and when the new one is expected. hopefully it is a full frame with better ISO and live view as for a video feature, why not but not mandatory. Moreover,, I would like it to be the equivalent of the top range in Canikons,
