Detailed hands-on preview on http://www.dpreview.com/previews/SonyDSLRA900/

This also has a full review (the best I've read so far on the web):

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/AA900/AA900A.HTM

With some comparisons with Canon's flagship - the 1DSmark3.  Interestingly the A900 holds it's own in IQ, with the Canon being marginally better.  Obviously this is 3x the price of the A900, but also now 3 years old and due for replacement.
I think the most interesting comparision will come when the Canon 5Dmark2 arrives, since this will be another 'semi-pro / prosumer' high resolution full frame camera at a similar price (supposed to be 21MP)

For me - the lack of pop-up flash makes the camera a non starter.  I'd like to think I could live without it, but my camera serves many purposes and it's not as if the A900 is some High ISO Monster that you can shoot without flash.

IQ looks very simular to the A700 at 100% - which was too be expected and a big achievement for 25MP, but I don't think I need 25MP.  I would assume long exposures would also be similar to the A700 - just with bigger files.  I'd like the bigger and brighter viewfinder, but not sure I'm willing to pay £1800.

I know this thread is about the a900 but there is a mention of a "new" a700 on there... the page shows, on the left;

Take your photography to the next level

Discover the complete α system and new α 700 here.

http://www.sonystyle.co.uk/SonyStyle/b2c/deeplink.do?s=external&ss=promotion_alpha_en_gb&csint=14000881 this bit shows "More" as a link... but I don't remember how to put it in like that :-[

Now, I don't know if it means there is a NEW a700 or it's just SONY not updating all their pages correctly ???

IF you try to follow that link it takes you to a page that just states "Apparently an error occured" ???

Apologies for the bit of useless trivial [?] info at this important time :-[ Back to the discussion for the a900 which I like the look of but... ;)

I mentioned the lack of built-in flash in another thread.  I know this is common with other pro-spec cameras but it's a really limiting factor for me.  The a900 could never be your only camera.  You'd need an a700 for those family parties and casual events (and times when you think a bit of fill-in flash would help but can't be bothered messy around with the dedicated unit).  Nice, interesting but I'll be spending my money on lenses instead.

Call me stupid - many do - but where's the price at Sony?

However, I found this....
http://www.bestcameras.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2ebestcameras%2eco%2euk%2fshop%2facatalog%2fsearch%2ehtml&WD=a900&PN=Online_Catalogue_Sony_Alpha_A900_body_492%2ehtml%23a636#a636

This can't be the real UK price.   £2,350.00 -  Must be just an estimate (people would hope!)

As far as I understand, the UK price hasn't been set yet.

Springtide, if you look further down the best cameras page, it says

"The price is to be confirmed and is expected to be around £2000 or below"
