On what focus did you set your camera? Centre point, continuous...?
Some fo them are pin sharp while others are slightly softer. What exposure time and ISO- sorry for the many questions...

Thanks Chappo1 for the comments. I wanted to compare continues focus side by side with a55.Even if the a900 manage only 5 fps compare to a55 that manage 10 fps the quality of the pictures are outstanding.
Stef the camera was set as follows with 70-200G
-AF continues
-Spot center point sensor
-Aperture priority
-ISO 100
-shutter speed 1/640
-f 3,5
-(-0.3 EV)

Thanks TG. Now I have a really stupid question...wouldn't it be better to NOT set the focus point to centre but to variable? I have no real experience with shooting motorsports...

Hello Stef,
the a900 and almost the a700 try to use the center point focus even if you have select wide focus area. When i use the camera with SAL 70-200G f2,8 i try always to use spot focus but not with bird in fly since they are very small and you can loose the subject very easily. The double cross sensor in a700/900 is very reliable and more accurate than a55 spot sensor. But in a55 the wide focus area is more relable than the wide area from a700/900.

Almost all pictures i have post lately are a900(spot area) and a55 (wide area)

Thanks for the explanation. I will go and give it a try at some point. Keep us updated about your findings with the A55. Very intersting and promising.

I was shooting 5FPS in the theatre on the weekend. Itwas great for catching that perfect pose, but at the time I thought hmmmm an a55 with 10FPS and no mirror slap would be great right now :)
