a900 and Tamron 70-200 f2.8
« on: July 19, 2012, 02:24:52 AM »
Hi.  I'll be getting an a900 in the very near future and wonder if the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 works with this full-frame camera?  Some of my other lenses that I use with my a700 have a black frame around the image when used with the a900 and I want to make sure this isn't the case with the 70-200 lens.

Thanks.  :-)

Welcome to the forum Gracie (I took a guess at gngracie).  I do not have that lens but all the blurb says it is full frame so you ought not to have any issues.
We look forward to seeing some images from the combo.....john

The lenses that give a black frame when used with the A900 are aps-c lenses that are optimized for crop frame cameras such as the A700. They can also be used on the A900/A850 full frame cameras but at a reduced resolution. The Tamron is full frame and and can be used on both the A900 and the A700.

Welcome aboard gngracie!  I have Tamron 70-200mm and works well with a900. Little bit slow, but IQ is excellent.

There are examples in this forum, but here some for you to taste ...

Cheers,

I too have an A900 with the Tamron 70-200.  It is a fabulously sharp lens.  It's slow to focus and hunts a some but use the af/mf button as a sort of focus limiter and then put the lens in MF mode and you can get it close to focus. it's a little trick you learn with that lens to stop the full range rack of the focusing.

I wouldn't trade that lens for anything!  I love that lens and for the price, it's the best you can get.  The sigma is faster but not as sharp.  I'd trade image over speed any day unless speed is where you make your money shooting. I don't so I choose the Tamron.

You'll be quite happy with the combination of the two.

Thank you all for your replies and for your images with the Tamron and a900.  I really appreciate it and I'm so looking forward to playing with this new and excellent combination.  :-)
