Looks interesting in terms of images.  I have to admit that the numbering and difference between the models is starting to confuse me a little.  When I bought my A700 there was the A100 and the A700 and determining the spec differences was easy.  Now with a 230, 330,380,500,550,700 (still),850 and 900 I am getting overwhelmed with how they differ.  Not as bad as those C.... things yet but going that way.

I was at a Sony store.  I asked if the 850 was in and they said yes.  I asked to see it and they had to check to make sure it could be revealed.  The guy came back and said there was nothing that said no and he took it out of the box.  I held it, checked it out for a few minutes.  It holds in the hand very nice -  similar to the a700 in many regards. There are a few button change locations - nominal though.  The dial though for changing exposure settings, P, S, A, M etc.., still has a cheasy look to it but that is me and makes little difference, just an observation.  Viewfinder is nice and bright and no pop-up flash.  A nice entry - just wish it shot 5fps or more.  For those that that feature means nothing to, a superb entry by appearances.

It's the FPS that kills the 850 for me. I wish my 700 was faster, and I think I hit something like 5.5 with that.

Hi All
Just crossed my mind while looking at the thread seen hundreds of pictures via the web and on my monitor that all look excellent some look better than others but I suspect that it is more to do with the glass than the camera. Can you really make a judgement as to whether the camera becomes a must buy for you from a few images on the net?

I think you also hit another key point there. Any image can look great on the web, as they are typically scaled down. I'd dare say that if all of your images were for web use only, then the KM 5d would be more than enough, and the A100 and A200 is getting to be far more than enough. However, for printing and high-end use, then the A100 and A200 is the bare minimum these days. Also, for web use, I think the 18-70mm kit lens is sufficient, but struggles every where else. [edit, forgot to add] Otherwise, I completely agree, good lenses means good pictures for good printing.

For me, the A850 is definitely a good choice, I don't need the high speed frame rate, as I don't do sports shots, having a 98% view finder is still a step up. However, I think I'll get which ever, on the second hand market falls into my price range first. ;)
