A850 Finally got it !
« on: September 29, 2014, 06:25:57 PM »
Well I received my pre loved A850 today. Only had about 1/2 to play with it but first impressions are really good. Ive been using the A77 for the past couple of years so will be very interesting to see the differences between the two as this is my first experience of  full frame. Love the sound of the shutter and the OVF is great wasn't sure how I would going back to it after using EVF. Looking forward to having a real good go with it.

The OVF on the A900 is very god indeed (the A850 is slightly smaller I believe), and it's what's kept me from wanting an A99 too much.

It is difficult to explain to white mice that black cats are lucky...

Hi Gordon, I've never really had any issue using EVF and in fact quite like it. However there is no doubt that the 850 view finder is lovely and bright. In my opinion it gives a much truer representation of the scene. What I've noticed when comparing the two over the last week or so is that the EVF gives a  slightly more saturated look, which doesn't then transfer to the final picture. Its probably something I got used to. If the decision was purely down to the view then I think the 850 would be the winner. But there are advantages to EVF in the form of some of the electronic assists if you like. You can have a level on, composition grids on and also if you alter the exposure compensation for example you see the effect of that through the view finder. The fact you can review pictures in the view finder I found to be a big plus. Focus peaking is another great tool.  In fact on the A77 I rarely took the camera away from my eye and didn't use the top screen and hardly every used the back screen unless I was shooting at awkward angles.  So it really does come down to personal preference and if you would find yourself using the additional features that EVF would give. I like both screens but probably for me at this moment I would just favour EVF purely from a convenience factor.
