Sorry I didn't actually register the price they were asking - £800 - that's just rude.

Good luck in your search, I'm sure whatever you end up with you will be more than happy with it.

I started out with a Sony a200 and upgraded to 2 a700. The a700 is a very nice camera and is still very available here in my area. It is also still available from the Sony Style stores. I love everything about the a700 and will continue to use this camera in certain situations. I just received a Sony a850 for Christmas and I also love that camera. It will be my main camera for shooting. I would have to agree with mission1968 statements below. " the body of the a700 is heaven.  Everything I want accessible is there, right away.  No fumbling through menus to do simple things like change the metering or focus mode.  Want to change the f-stop AND the shutter speed without accessing the menu, you can as it has 2 fly-wheels.

I cannot say enough about the wonderful design of this body.  Hold one in your hand and try it.  You will immediately know what I mean.  The guts are great and will be outdated by new technology as all our cameras will, but this body design is a thing of beauty."

I tried one of the a500 series camera and they are way to small for my liking. The feel is way off from what I like. I am use to shooting a bigger and heavier camera.

Just my 2 cents.

The 18-70 kit lens will work in 'cropped' mode on the 850 (which is full frame), the rest are full frame lenses so will work fine.

The question is can you resist the urge to buy a shiny new lens to go on the 850 when you get it :-)

You don't really want to ask this question...the best all rounder IMHO (money no objection ;) ) is the CZ 24-70mm. On the other hand I have not looked into the new Sigma 24-70mm or Tamron should there be a new one out.

I agree with Stef, since I bought the CZ 24-70 it is the only lens I use now, unless I need a longer reach. It is a great all rounder if you are happy with the maximum zoom it gives and undoubtedly the weight. In my opinion it is a great, smooth focus and fast lens in addition it is perfect in terms of image quality.

I bought a a700 as a backup to an a850 and am quite pleased with it.

It looks like a fair price and barely used.

What is the pound to US dollar conversion?

The A700 is a fantastic camera...I do not care if it is old technology, many of the "new" features such as video, live view and tilt screen I do not need.  If you can find one grab it....john

I agree with John, I upgraded last August from the a300 to the a700. I prefer the a700 by far, it has a much better feel and much better quality. In the end it comes down to what you really want in your next dslr....norm
