DPReview says it's the same as the A380, just a better hand grip. http://dpreview.com/news/1007/10072804sonydslra390review.asp

Well there we go
 The A350 still rules.
The view finder thing is so difficult to quantify, for an amature like myself. Yes I know about the live view thingy and am aware of, and use, it's advantages. All I can say is I did myself a disservice by peeping through an A700, and A850 and , "Gasp", a Cannon D40 . Talk about a whole new world!!! I am almost ready to upgrade just on the viewfinder point alone. Lucky for Sony, I am loyal and will just have to hang in for a deal on a 700 or move to the FF side.
To cap it, I guess we could not expect too much more from the a390, but was it necessary in a world when we are all hanging in for a new A7** and A9**.  Yes, the A380 grip is c--P and plasticy in general but that never really worried Sony before.

Perhaps this is just the first model of a new series of Ax90 SLR's?  A390/A590/A890?

I think I'd still be getting an A550 body myself unless Sony comes up with a better option.  I'd imagine you could manage to get some decent deals on the A550 by now.

Best regards

Gavin
