Did the camera get wet/damp in any way that may have shorted something?
When you day it still takes pictures, do the get displaced on the LCD afterwards and is the menu displayed when you turn the camera on?

Rgds,
Dave

Welcome to the forum. I have a very stupid question: were you not able to see anything on the back of your screen? You do know that there is a little button that switches the display (menu etc...) on the screen off? Hope it is not something more serious.
