Thanks for the offer. I suspect that I can pick up a 7000 for less than the postage from Australia. The offer is appreciated.  :)

Sorry to hear. The odds of both quitting? Buy a lottery ticket.
I know you need a quick replacement. Long term if you patient you may or not have heard my explanation of getting my A700 w v/grip FREE.
Look for collections being sold on Ebay. Mine was a700, grip, anglefinder, Sony 50 1.4, 11-17 3.5-5.6, 18-250, 18-70 & 75-300 kit lens, F56AM, Angle finder, & Alpha bag.
I took a risk and won it with a bid of $1650 something US.
Sold 50 1.4 $300
       F56AM $350
       11-17  $450
      75-300 $150
      18-70   $100
      18-250 $300
      Bag     $50
Total         $1700

I done similar for relatives with other Sony models. This however is the only deal I actually came out with money in my pocket and camera in my bag. It takes alot of patience, having a top dollar bid in mind, and submitting that bid with seconds left win or lose.
Best of luck.

Update.

My camera has come to life again, and has been used on occasions. I have to admit, I really don't like the ergonomics of the A200. As I was pining for the erganomics of the Alpha Sweet (aka Dynax 5d), I tried it out just five minutes ago. When I started it the sensor made that grinding noise that it made when it died last year. So I thought I should try taking a picture, and guess what... nothing. It seems that my dear old camera has a humidity allergy (being 80% at the moment).

So, if you think your Dynax 5d has died, it probably hasn't, just a strong dislike for humidity.

How is this going now? Is the 200 O.K now and how are the ergonomics now you are used to them? I liked th esweet very much for the supposedly bottm end, the 700 is better but since the 5/7D and the 700 the ergonomics have not improved afaik :).

The A200 is alright, it's small and light so that's a plus. But the problem is that it's small... (light is still fine for me). I still can't get used to the +/- button for adjusting the aperture when in M mode, it's soooo frustrating sometimes, and it slows me down. Otherwise, the A200 doesn't seem to be bothered by the heat and humidity... touch wood. I'll be going out to a festival tomorrow night, and taking a film camera as backup, again.

In anycase, it seems to me that there's so little difference between the Sweet / 5d and the A200, that just the sensor and ergonomics set them apart. That doesn't stop me pining for the A900 just the same.

Did you find a flash or camera to canibalise for your battered 5d?
