Hello Rossi, I think there is no extra trey to buy. What I can say is that from Sony a700 and up until today all Sony a mount use the same tray.May be you can find on e-bay very cheap battery grip and get the tray you wish.

Got this link from Sony today:

Think it's ebay after all. Didn't want to cannibalise a perfectly good grip for the tray but these prices are ludicrous.

Hi,

I have a Genuine A700 Grip, Genuine A900 Grip and Meilke A900 grip - I should be able to check tonight if the Meilke tray fits / works in the official A700 and A900 grips.

(unless Rex can confirm a 3-rd party grip tray will work in an official grip).

I suspect Rex is right, as the tray is designed around the pair of batteries, and these are common.

I have a very cheap Ebay battery grip ($45.00) for my A77 and comparing it with the A700 and A850 Sony Grips ($300.00 each); it is identical in almost all details. The only obvious difference is the writing is on the body beside the buttons, whereas on the Sony grips it is directly on the buttons. The tray is exactly the same and is interchangeable. I'm not sure if you can get them so cheap now, but it will be cheaper than 101.60 GBP + VAT. ($163.00 + VAT). My cheap grip has worked perfectly for over two years now. Just using the tray will present no problems.

Sorry, been busy and forgot to check and report back on this.

The genuine Sony A900 & A700 trays appear to be interchangeable.

The Meilke A900 VG tray does NOT fit in the A700 VG - it appears to be ~1mm to tall.

Rossi, Here is a link to the VG. It is on sale now for US $40.29 and he has 7 Available. You probably only need one. :D

Free shipping and you can purchase a tracking # for less than $3.00 or Best Offer. It is made in China, just like a lot of Sony gear now.

You're welcome and You're correct, they don't ship to a lot of European countries. I never checked that as I cannot imagine why! Not to worry, the one you have found does appear to be the exact same unit.

Hi Rossi,

I own (3) OEM Sony Grips using that  $#@&^%$  battery tray.
Evidently lost (dropped) one at a recent PM sporting event.  I am generally so careful with equipment ... I'd like to kick myself.

Anyway ... so this Battery Tray is still used by VG-C70AM (for A700) and the VG-C77AM (for A77 and A77ii) Vertical Grips.
But yes you'll read "Discontinued" ... no longer available.  Which makes NO sense given its for a Grip still available New online.

The OEM Sony part # is 1-780-562-31.

And yes ... the $298.00 OEM grip is useless without it.
So yeah, bought a replacement this evening from SONY (by phone) as I could not find it elsewhere.  Called BH in NYC ... tried the Sony (877) sales # and they couldn't even find the part number.

So it  was $69.00.  Did I want to?  Nope.  But did.

The Sony Parts Tel # is: (239) 768-7691 or http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/contact_us.jsp

The person I spoke with was extremely helpful.  One caveat ... even she admitted their inventory is dwindling.  (6) in stock before my Call.

I cannot speak for ALL the aftermarket grips available ... but will say that all the Sony grips I have are well-built and I don't shoot without a grip.  Used to the comfort and balance.

Good Luck,
Jerry
