...It all started a few months back when I wrote a comparison article on Carl Zeiss Lenses and Canon lenses. The Zeiss lenses blew Canon away...Sony has done a brilliant job with the A55 for shooting video...My first experience working with this camera was a real joy. For one thing, I love the Zeiss lenses....The camera performed far better than expected in the tough lighting. ...It was at this point that I really started to feel like Sony had taken a pro camera and simplified a bit so they could sell it as a consumer level camera....Shooting video with the A55 was a dream. The ability to use autofocus while shooting, coupled with being able to use the viewfinder as opposed to the LCD screen on the back of the camera makes this one of my top picks for HDDSLR shooting....

Yup, but its a good article for CZ. I know he is a pro but the CZ glass out performed the Canon by a mile. We have that glass, but with the addition of Autofocus :)

I loved this bit:

The only complaint with the autofocus – and this isn’t really a compliant it’s more a testament to Sony’s technology – is that it focuses too fast. It simply snaps right into focus when sometimes it would be nice to have a softer transition. Of course anybody versed in shooting with a Zeiss lens can focus manually after just a few hours practice.

"Focuses too fast" - how does that work then? :-)

I'm REALLY looking forward to the release of the A77 (or whatever it will be called). I've not had my Konica Minolta 7D out of its bag for about a year now (just been using a Panasonic TZ7) but think that a nice new DSLR may spur me on to "proper" photography again.

Cheers,

“Without a doubt, the Sony Alpha SLT-A55 deserves our highest rating and we really cannot wait to know how SLT cameras will evolve from here. For now, the A55 is a very compelling DSLR-replacement, particularly for new photographers and video enthusiasts.“. The final verdict is EXCELLENT.

Thanks for this.

Getting seriously tempted, definitely worth trying out in a store at least!

I would really recommend waiting for the A77. As long as we don't know how expensive this new model will be, we might be positively surprised by it's price and then it becomes really tempting to go for the A77.

True, and it might push the price of A55s down once released!

It's still a lot of money coming from the a200.

Stef,

I really enjoyed Ben's review of the a55. It's much different than some of the other reviews you read that focus on the smallest of details of the camera rather than just taking it out in the field and shooting with it and discussing general features.

Thanks for the find.
