SLT-A33 Transfer of Movie Images to computer
« on: November 03, 2014, 10:24:42 AM »
I have a Sony SLT-A33 which takes fantastic still photographs. I recently experimented taking a couple of Movies. Only problem is that when I put the SD card into my card reader and open contents on my desktop computer (Windows 7 64 bit home premium) although I can see and able to transfer the still photographs there is no sign of the movie footage I've taken.

I have the movie part set up to take in MP4 and can play them back on the camera.

Can anyone please tell me where I am going wrong and how to put this right.

Thank you.

Don't think I'm going to pursue transferring to my computer.  It  would appear that a nightmare situation can arise when you try to download Sony's Picture Motion Browser to a computer running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. You need this software to transfer movie images.

Welcome to the forum, I hope that you will stick around. I have never bothered with video in all the years I have owned a DSLR so cannot talk from experience on it.  I have installed the Sony motion picture browser to a W7 64 bit machine without any problems.  I do not use it, preferring other software but  have looked at it.

If you are recording mp4, I would have thought that any of the video players would read and play it though....john

Hello John - thank you for responding.  The problem I have is that I just cannot see any file on my SD card which would refer to a movie. Masses of Jpegs for the stills but nothing which gives a hint of being a movie.  Perhaps I am not looking in the correct file.  I have Adobe photoshop elements 8 and Windows Movie maker so when I do find the movie file perhaps things will improve.

Not pushing things at the moment as I don't wish to goose my desktop.  Again - thank you for responding and your welcome to the forum.

The Movie files are not in the same directory as the RAW and jpg files which are in DCIM. There should also be three other directories, MP ROOT, PRIVATE and a hidden folder AVF INFO. If I remember correctly your MP4s should be in MP ROOT under 100ANV01.

Wow, how can I thank you.  It was as easy as that. Brilliant.  Copied the files to desktop. Clicked on each one and they played there and then.  I don't need to use PMB now. Just drag them over.

Thank you so much.

You are very welcome. :D You can thank us by posting some of your photos or MP4s or entering our monthly contests (they need to be hosted off-site, like flickr or youtube). Perhaps you may need some help, just ask, we have many very proficient members who are always willing to help.
