A55V Camera Error
« on: May 18, 2015, 08:36:11 AM »
Using camera yesterday it suddenly stopped working and displayed Camera Error message. I did the usual battery removal/replace and camera came on but no image, as if lens cap was on, and readings were accordingly i.e. 2" exposure. Took battery out again but nothing. Have now left out over night but still just Camera Error message. Is there any thing else I can do?
Many thanks

My wife has an A55 and in January we were out and she let her battery exhaust.   (it should not matter I know)
I will list for you the sequence of what we tried
Put in a fresh battery- no life ( Maybe the battery was not charged)?
On arriving home we charged up both batteries and tried them- nothing.

Fortunately 4 years ago when we bought it, she was talked into taking out a 5 year warranty.
The camera shop and Sony had the camera for 8 weeks but it came back with a new circuit board.  No charge.

Have you tried typing in the camera error message into the internet?
From when I looked, one suggestion was to see if the mirror was stuck.  but it appears that the A55 is notorious for this issue.
Keep us posted....john

latest, no joy after leaving battery out for 48 hours, in fact a new issue as the Error Message appeared as soon as I replaced battery (camera switched off). So I have sent it to a repairers (in Kent), hope to get it back before my holiday.

Good luck!
There are people who actually think LENS stabilization is better than sensor shifting!

Hopefully it will not take long.  Downunder, my wife's went off to Sony in Melbourne who then had to obtain a new circuit board from goodness knows where.  Being long out of production there will not be huge stocks of parts all over the world I expect.  My wife used my old A700 whilst she was waiting for repair and I listened to the complaints about how heavy it is and that the rear screen did not flip down.
Keep your fingers crossed.....john

Seeing Mark comment on his A99 jogged my memory that I did not report back on my wife's A55.
Took an age but they replaced the circuit board and cleaned the sensor at zero cost......john

Regarding the A99... It started working yesterday evening as if nothing ever happened...
