A55 Question
« on: September 30, 2010, 07:54:12 PM »
As there doesn't seem to be an intervalometer built in to the SLT-A55, at least I haven't seen one mentioned anywhere, is there likely to be an external one (available now or in the future) that will work ok with it?

I know the A55's not available yet, but was hoping someone much smarter than me or with photographic hardware experience could give an educated guess?

Thanks!

I seriously doubt it.  There is not much demand for that feature.  I lucked-out as my Maxxum 7D has one.
DSLR's
Pentax K-5
Olympus E-520
Sony A100

SLR's
Minolta: Maxxum 600si
Zeiss Ikon: Contaflex Super BC

P&S's
Nikon: P7100

lenses: various AF zooms and M42 primes

I think an intervalometer is more likely in the a77 than the a55. That'd be consistent with previous generations of 5s and 7s...

There is always the option of using a remote control with intervalometer functions. Lots of them cheaply available on ebay etc

I thought that would be the case, that is what I meant by an 'external' intervalometer, sorry for any confusion! Do you think a remote/intervalometer that will work with the a55, will be (or is) available?

If so, how would it connect to the camera? ie would it be with a cable or by wireless/infra-red? Is there a specific type that would work with the A55 or are there standard types of controller that work with various camera brands?

Could you recommend any remotes at all or point me in a particular direction of something that would be compatible with the A55? I'm quite happy to use a remote control by the way as an intervalometer isn't built in to the A55.

Sorry for all the questions, newb & all! Thanks for the replies. :)

I expect that any remote that works with any of the sony alpha cameras will work with the a55.

To be honest I'd just search ebay for this - I'm happy to point out some if that helps, but you'll want to factor in shipping costs - where are you based? :)

That would be great if you could. :) Obviously haven't got the camera yet, so I was just a bit concerned about getting a remote before the camera, (my first 'serious' one lol) as I wasn't sure if it would support a remote or not. The only (wired) remotes I've seen have a connector on that I didn't think the A55 supported & didn't know about it's wireless support.

I'm in the UK btw,

Thanks ;)

This is just a quick search - I haven't read the listings in details... gadget infinity tend to be reliable, the others are probably fine too...

I'm in Australia, so shipping is completely different to here...

Also, see this image for remote socket (covered). You can't actually see if it's the same socket as the previous alphas, but I'd be stunned if they had a different remote socket for the SLTs. There's been no mention of it that I've seen...

I can confirm for an A33 that an old hard wired remote Minolta RC-1000 works, and the  RMT-DSLR1 wireless remote that came with my A700 works the single shot and 2 sec delay shot (didn't try rest of functions). As a third party wired remote works that I have modified to work with a IR beam detection system.
