Sony Alpha SLT Camera Discussion / Re: USA Today A-77 Review
« on: May 29, 2012, 07:25:02 PM »

We knew that the A77 was great while we were testing it, but we didn’t realize just how well it would rank until we finished filling out its scoresheet. It blows away all of the other mid-level DSLRs that we’ve tested, and holds its own against the pro-level Canon 5D Mk. III.

Wow! that's some conclusion of the A77. Good stuff!

Other Photography Equipment / Re: Mac or Windows

Hello everyone, sorry I have been away from DDF. Missed you guys.. I was out of a job for while. But all is back on track now.

I haven't seen a desktop at home for nearly 4 years now. Been using laptops all the while. Currently am using a 13 inch Lenovo U260 netbook. Its very slim and body is full metal construction. Win 7 with 4 GB RAM and an SSD hard drive. I use it for my daily home surfing, Music/ Video downloads, RAW file edits on LR4 and even have elements 10. Have been using it for over a year and has never freeze or any problems. PC/ Windows notebooks are priced cheapest in the world in Dubai.

Mac are very expensive in here.Prob the most expensive prices. if i could afford one i would instantly go for the Macbook Pro. Always fancied owning a Mac Notebook.

Sony Alpha SLT Camera Discussion / Re: Sony A65 - superb video

Great Video. Too good. The person has edited it like a pro.

The A500 is discontinued and the A35 will too shortly. It may take you time to get used to an A35  as its  much smaller in size than your current A290 and A500. Why don't you try the A57 which is out. Its similar in size to the A5XX camera bodies plus you will get an improved VF, better AF, improved ISO, 16mp, big battery, 10 fps and latest tech and features.

there is also mention of 5 other improvements of the list provided nor sure what these are yet,

Sony Middle east is improving its support service now. I got an email from them. They are sending emails out to all registered alpha and NEX buyers on software and FW updates.

Rick i asked them about the '5 other improvements'. They responded that they are the improvements which were included on the first a77/A65 FW 1.04 update.

Digital Darkroom / Re: Which software?
« on: April 02, 2012, 08:49:44 AM »
Is it worth spending on LR4? PSP Pro X4 is only $50 till today midnight.

Option is EITHER get LR4 that stands in between PSP and Silkypix Pro in terms of price OR use Silkypix (bundled by Fuji with the X-S1 - for RAF to Tiff conversion) and PP in PSP Pro X4 meanwhile ask Corel to update the support for X-S1 (would they do it?).

Besides price you have to know what exactly you’re looking to gain from  a PP software. My understanding is that LR is specifically only for photographers whereas the PS Pro X4 is more a graphics software used by both photographers and graphic designers. PS X4 can be compared to Elements. If you plan the PS X4 route then i suggest you look at  Photoshop Elements 10 which retails at around $80. Photoshop Elements is considered to be very good too.
I have discovered LR just 2 years ago and cannot turn back. IMO it’s the best RAW editing software for both enthusiasts and pros especially if you’re working on huge file size and numbers and want a quick result. I am very bad at PP graphics software’s  and don’t have a clue about brushes and layers :) LR is simple yet powerful  and works best for me.
Just for your info the LR4 price tag of $150 is a reduced price by adobe a month ago. If you ask regular LR users they will tell you that the software used to cost over USD$250 in the past. So this price reduction is a big bonus. Just go the LR route you won’t regret it.

Sony Alpha SLT Camera Discussion / Re: What happened to the A35 ?
« on: April 01, 2012, 04:24:38 AM »
Thanks - presumably with the 24mp sensor and flip screen - and more expensive ?
I may hang around and see what comes up , but keeping up is a nightmare these days !
Looks like its going to be a trend with the other manufacturers as well. Hear that in april Nikon is going to launch their entry Dslr D3200 with sony's 24mp sensor.

Second one for me Dave but in both, my eye follows the bottom blossom going out of frame.  Cloning out the disappearing petals would improve both in my view....john
