Please recommend ball mount
« on: July 06, 2017, 08:17:02 PM »
My tripod, while otherwise perfectly acceptable, has 3 points of adjustment for height, tilt and rotation. It has occurred to me that perhaps a ball mount would be easier to use. I would be mounting a Sony a330 with 100--300 zoom lens on top of my tripod. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm currently using a Sirui k-30x ballhead. I had been using a borrowed one for about 8 months and found it to be really rather well made and once setup properly for the amount of tension i wanted it easily holds my camera solidly even with the 70-400mm G lens. I ended up buying one myself as i was very impressed with it. Holds rock solid and  great value at £130.

I'm sure there are better out there but at the price i find this suits my photography perfectly. I use it in conjunction with a L bracket on my camera body and obviously the tripod mount on the longer lenses.
