Whoops
« on: January 08, 2010, 05:08:23 PM »
I went out for a walk today. I saw a nice scene that I wanted to capture so climbed up a bank and slipped, that was the whoops. I landed on my back and slid down a slope for about 15ft. The big whoops was my camera, lenses, tripod everything was in my rucksack which was on my back.

I was relieved however to find that once I had picked myself up, quickly taken my rucksack off and checked everything nothing apart from my jeans had been damaged. The camera and lenses were all fine.

The rucksack in question is my Tamrac Adventurer 9, rather a sturdy bit of kit it turns out.

Moral: Dont be an idiot and climb a steep bank not knowing whats on the other side.

It was rather embarrassing, I was with the better half and a friend. One minute I was there and the next I was gone, magic.

Looking around this evening, I have found others have had similar 'cock ups' with Tamrac bags. None of them have damaged their kit which is pretty impressive.

Any news on your flight Stef?

I think we have all had an incident like that.  Last summer, after we had had days and days of rain here in Toronto I was attempting to photograph some wood ducklings and I started down a small incline leading to the pond and the mud just took hold of me and down the little incline I went and all I could think of was "MY CAMERA", - I landed on my bottom in the muddy water covered but I managed to hold my arm up protecting my camera. That's all I cared about - just like you who likely checked out your camera and lens before giving a thought to yourself..... glad you are alright!
