Lol, nope, not for someone who likes canon it isn't, which is an awful lot of people. Personally I'd chuck the 7D aside if somone got me, lets say, a new canon 5D and a few decent lenses? Maybe once I have a proper job I'll splash out on a really amazing camera, unless I suddenly get married, have six kids and ruin my life. :o  That really amazing camera could be a 9D or it's future children? :)

I take it your dad is a canon man. I can picture the rows. :o

Honestly, I think overkill is the very reason they're sitting at the top of the market. How many times have they raised the bar in this market? First the full frame (Contax came out with the actual first full frame camera, but it flopped because it wasn't that great a camera) in the major 3 35mm manufacturers, and the first company to come out with a below-$ 1000 camera.

In the end though, they're more interested in ruling the market and staying on op than in the end consumer.
This is one reason why I'm still sticking with Minolta.

20Da is a new astronomy camera with some special filters on the chip. If you aren’t going to buy a Minolta then get a 20D.
