Zoom lens for a6300
« on: July 19, 2016, 08:48:33 PM »
Hi, I am going around in circles and thought you guys would be able to help.
I currently have an a99 and am more than happy. I was thinking about buying the rx10iii as a do everything camera but then I moved my thoughts onto the a6300. I have pulled the trigger and ordered the body, all I need now is a lens.
I am looking for a do everything lens 18-300 (if possible) or 18-257 / 270. Overtime I search, I can see evidence that sigma and tamron both make lenses like this but I can't seem to find an e-mount version.
Does one exists? is it any good?
I am not after the best lens in the world, i am just after one lens as a do everything for travel.
Any help appreciated.

The only lens I can think of is the Sony α DT 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3. There is nothing similar in the Emount that I know of.

The Sony A mount DT 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 is designed for the APS-c sensors, and would be compatible with the A630 and be equivalent to 27-375mm f/3.5-6.3. You would need an adapter like the LA-EA3 or 4 but would not have image stabilization (I'm almost sure). Tamron may have a lens in that range and Sigma are introducing one, an HSM, in August.
Sony A7, A850, A77, A700 || Sony>> 70-300G, 28-75 f2.8 SAM, 16-80CZ, 50 f1.4, FE 28-70 OSS, FE 24-70CZ f4 OSS, LA-EA4 || Minolta>> 300 f4 G HS, 200 f2.8 G HS, 100 f2.8 (D) Macro, 50 f1.7, 28 f2.8, 28-135 f4-4.5, 70-210 f4, 500 f8 Reflex, TC x 1.4 HS, TC x 2 HS. || Sigma 21-35 f3.5-4.2. || Tamron SP 24-135.

I have bought my wife an A6300 to replace her aging A55 A mount.  The lens selected was/is the SEL18200LE.  My wife does not want to change lenses and this one will replace the SAL18250 on the A55.

I also have an A99 and my walk about lens is the SAL2470CZ  a Sony Zeiss which I find terrific.  For longer zoom I use the SAL70300G which I also like.
The downside is street type photography with the A99/2470CZ and the weight.  The Zeiss weighs nearly a kilo and a long day of walking around is tiring.

I was heading towards the A7RII but it will not do much for me weight wise so have changed tack and will stay with the A99 for birding with the 70300G, landscape and not walking too far with the 2470CZ plus I have a Tamron 180mm Macro.

I am going to by myself an A6300 with the same SEL18200LE for just street work.  If you are coming from an A99 the SEL18200LE becomes a 24-300 on the crop sensor.

Just my 2 cents worth- a bit wordy but I wanted to explain the thinking...john
