Title: NEX6 for my wife's birthday
Post by: REX (aka TG) on October 28, 2012, 07:07:19 AM
Since my wife follow me to the excursion i go with friend i decided to buy her a light one camera.

I used it at this weekend with various lens and adapter and can say is a small beast. With the 16-50 kit lens this camera is a perfect street, no carring heavy and bulgy cameras while you go with Friends for a cap of tea/coffee

-First of all the new lens 16-50 is so small. When you enable digital Zoom and you pass the 50mm then the camera enter in the digital crop mode with pixel resembling. So from 16-50 you get a lens in compact form to 100mm.
-When you pass the 50mm and you enter the crop mode and the focus is locked if you turn the focus/zoom ring then you have focus magnification where you can check the manual exact focus with focus peaking. A feature that i am missing on SLT where you have to press magnification and then adjust fine focus.
-You can use with the LA1 adapter all A mount lens with aperture control. The SSM & SAM can focus but with out the on sensor phase autofocus points just like the previous NEX models.
-You can use any flash you have Old Minolta ISO shoe/Nikon/Canon but in manual mode. You can also use the Minolta flash shoe iISO with an adapter that is sold separately.

When i borrow her camera to use i definitely use it my manual focus lens i got slowly from friends they didn't want these class like...... :D

Minolta MD 24mm f2.8 on Nex 35mm f2.8 Street lens
Minolta MD 28mm f2.8 on Nex 42mm f2.8
Minolta MD 50mm f1.4 on Nex 70mm f1.4 Portrait lens
Zenith Helios 58mm f2 on Nex 87mm f2    portrait lens
Minolta MD 100mm f3.5 Macro on Nex 150mm Macro & portrait lens
Minolta MD 100mm f4 Macro (Auto bellows)  on Nex 150mm f4 Macro (Auto bellows)
Minolta MD 135mm f2.8 on Nex 200mm f2.8 Portrait/Tele lens

My favorite one is the Minolta MD 135 f2.8 very compact and sharp lens.

If you own any old lens don't sell them because NEX system will wake up again the use of these kind of lens.

The nex system is something really to write about..... My experience with the Nex 7 is very similar to yours. It is not heavy, not bulgy. It almost screams when being placed in your regular camera bag (it is at that point where one realizes how simple the NEX is and how light).

I haven't acquired any old mount lenses and am not planning to buy the adaptor. I am very interested in the new wide angle and perhaps will indulge in one of the zeiss prime lenses.

Glad your wife and you are enjoying the camera!

I have the older Nex 5 and have to say that it is indeed a little beast which can deliver outstanding results. The only thing that really bugs me is the missing viewfinder. I never got used to looking at the rear screen and therefore I do not use it as often as I perhaps should. On the other hand it is an ideal camera to take with me when I want to travel light.
Stef.

In middle of November we will go with our photography club up to the villages and that days she will use the camera a lot.

My wife has the old NEX5.

Very compact and handy but what I miss is the viewfinder as Stef wrote. I cannot use the LCD close to my eyes so she escaped me flicking it. It's flash is a crap. If Sony had put a flash shoe :-(

Now I am afraid she might snatch my A580 after she found out how convenient the (O)VF is last weekend. However, she liked Fuji XS-1 I have  as it is lighter but with a mighty zoom and EVF, so she may not lay hands on A580.

Just bought the 5n with add-on EVF (excellent eBay deal) and am so in love, I may resell it and get the Nex 7.
