NEX-6 Battery Life!??
« on: April 26, 2014, 12:22:11 PM »
Hi all,

Do any of you own a Sony NEX-6 and have issues with the battery life?

My NEX-6 which has a genuine sony NP-FW50 battery seems to be very short on battery life.

The camera and battery are almost brand new, and when bought the battery was totally dead, so I charged over night, it taking about 5 hours according to the manual.
Once charged it was registered at 100%.

According to the manual it should have a life of approx 360 images with the LCD screen and 270 with the electric viewfinder, but I used it for half a day and took about 150 images, mainly through the viewfinder, and about 10 of them were 30sec exposures and a bit of playing through them all and i expired the battery to 0% and it expired.

Is this right? or would there be a fault with the NEX-6 unit or battery?

Ive since recharged from flat to full, and it seems to be draining ever so quickly.

My camera shop have advised its a bit strange, and to charge/use to flat and recharge a few times to correct the battery memory, if this doesnt work, maybe a new battery is required, or a fault with the camera.

Do you have any thoughts please??

Thanks John for kind words.

Try to photograph with fully charge battery and don't play back or review any images. See how many pictures you will get.

Viewfinders especially in NEX6/7.A77/A99 they consumes almost double the energy than the rear LCD screen. So if you are using only view finder then the shots you will manage will be far less than Sony says

Many thanks for your help.

It does seem to be a camera thats battery hungry, especially the viewfinder rather than the LCD display.

But i sent it back to the shop, and to test it, they run it non-stop from a full charge on video and the battery should last 1hour 30mins, and mine didnt , so they very kindly changed the battery and found the battery was faulty.
