OK this is my personal opinion but after the release of the 70-200GII I think Sony is preparing us for the A-mount end.

1)They introduced the GII lens 300GII/70-400GII & now 70-200GII the same optical formula as the GI series just adding Nano coting and (4 x faster SSM motor) marketing porpose

This means for me that they don't want to spend any more money on search & develop for new a mount lens just add some features and keep selling the a mount until the E-mount overtake the A-mount lens

There is a new 50mm Zeiss lens coming, Schneider-Kreuzhnach is developing lenses also to a-mount, and there is a rumour that Zeiss 70-200mm will come ...

I think A-mount will be here for some time at least I hope :)

Over at Dyxum Marlon, a long time member and professional photographer apparently has contacted Sony re the future of the a-mount and this is the answer he got:

Quote
"Thank you for contacting Sony Support. I understand that your concern is regarding the A-mount being replaced by the E-mount system. The A-mount units have always been the flagship ever since the release of the very first Sony Alpha camera. Much like the Single Lens Translucent (SLT) technology, the E-mount system is an innovation, introduced to further expand our interchangeable lens line, and in no way a replacement for the A-mount system.

Rest assured that we will further develop the A-mount system together with the E-mount, introducing new technology and upgrading features. We will continue to expand our lens and accessory selection, as well as better the functions of the cameras to adapt to our customers growing needs and wants. We currently do not have advanced information on the release of cameras, lenses and accessories, as well as software and firmware updates.

Sony Electronics only releases full product and support information at the same time it is officially released to the marketplace by our Marketing Department. However, some limited advanced information is often published in various magazine articles. You may also check the Sony Support and Sony Store website below for news and updates in the future."

Here is the thread:

If they are looking to move people away from the A-Mount (or end it altogether) that means new glass for a new system.  That means that I'll be considering all options.. including N and C.

Because seriously.. I'm getting pretty fed up with Sony.  Right now I can't help but feel like they are slapping around longtime customers.

Sony is apparently committed to the A-mount:

God I hate rumours (Unless its the fantastic album by Fleetwood Mac)!!

Moving back to the subject of this thread....... and away from rumours.... both the cameras look very nice and seem to have pretty nice specs. I will be interested to see some 'real world' pictures taken with them both. I would also like to have a feel of the camera and see how well they are balanced with a lens attached.

I don't like that Sony went away from NEX design. I was hopping for a NEX6/NEX7 in FF. If you add the grip and LAE-EA4 for telelens then this camera cant be the same as a99. The meaning for NEX it was to be compact and if you really need speed and full control very quickly then A mount SLT.

Would they stop with the new 70-200G FE mount like Fuji did with their X series?

Hope SONY'd keep A-mount cameras alive. Else if my A580 dies only option I have is to sell off my lenses (at a loss of course - since I do not make any money out of photography). There may be many like me.

Though A mount lenses would work on E mount with adaptors IBIS will be lost moving to the new A7 or the like :( . Isn't that the reason SONY used to tell as the advantage of buying their A mount cameras than others???

And another thread heads into the sky is falling, A-mount is dead abyss.  I really have to believe that there is a small, vocal minority of former Minoltians that really want Sony to fail.  The introduction of a new A-mount lens is an indication that the mount is dead?  Really?  Because they introduce something other than A-mount they are "slapping around long time customers"?  And this non-NEX is not like a NEX?

Anyway...   These look like excellent additions to the Sony line with a lot of potential sales.  I can imagine the Canon EF owners drooling over a 36Mp sensor with no AA filter that they can AF with their current lenses.  Or the Nikon guy that can lug around his D800E or drop the A7r in a small bag and go.  For me, an A-mount owner, this is another step in the right direction toward a DSLR-like mirrorless (with IBIS) E-mount plus adapter that will take all of my A-mount lenses plus the E-mount lenses.  Win, win!

I cant imagine my self holding 70-200GI or 70-400GI/II or 300G & a7 with LA-EA4 and running after for sports or birds

                    a7 vs a99
a)Frames per second a7(5) vs 6 or 8 (10Jpeq)
b)Articulate screen 2 axis vs fully articulate
c) grip & economics 7 is less comfortable than the a99
d)Battery grip a7 only one buton & one dial vs all butoms and two dials
e)Battery life time 300 vs 550
f)one card slot Vs 2 card slots)

This camera is not suitable for the kind of photos I make. Maybe for landscape is good and even better with My old MD series lens but even a NEX6 work perfect with these lens

I think Rex you forget a vital point: no in body stabilisation like with the A99. It is emount and those cameras have no stabilisation.
