New Boy with an NEX-7
« on: January 17, 2013, 06:51:04 PM »
Hi to you all,

At long last I took the plunge last week...bought what I call a (proper camera)
my choice...the Sony NEX-7 with it's 18-55 lens.
I intend to use it for wildlife...car shows & in particular aircraft shows, it's compact
But BIG performance fits the bill for me, also I have bought it's AF-A mount
converter.

This now gives me a wider choice of lager telephoto lenses, yes I know it will
look quite strange (big lens small camera) so what.

I think my choice will be the Sony 100-400 tele lens, this should get me "right
Into the action",
Unless someone out there can tell me of a better choice...?

Ray.

Hi Ray,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase, I am sure you will love it :) I got my mum and dad the same setup for their wedding anniversary and they take it everywhere.

Ref the lens, I have seen the NEX 7 paired with the Song G 70-400 and it looked very impressive.

Rgds,
Dave

Hi Ray welcome from another recent joining member ;-)

I have the 70-400G albeit with the A77 (but same sensor as your Nex-7) and it a superb lens that if you can justify the cash you won't be disappointed?

The only thing I would say is that it is rumoured to be replaced this year? But for me I wouldn't let this put you off as the new one will be £££££$$$$$$ at first that for sure?

At the moment the 70-400G is the lowest price I have seen it, although not exactly a bargain the price seems to be falling all the time?

Mick

PS : Enjoy your Nex and look forward to seeing some images :-)

Welcome to the forum Ray c.  We look forward to seeing some of your shots and a self portrait with the big 70-400G on the end of the nex 7.  I bet that will turn some Canikon heads....john

Rest assured shots will be posted, however, it's all a bit "Greek" at the moment,
I need to just practice on AF and slowly gain some confidence.
