INTRO - New to forum - Got my new Alpha a7r last week
« on: December 10, 2013, 03:06:29 AM »
Hi all,

I am new to this forum so I thought I would introduce "me to y'all".

My name is Pierre and I live in Toronto. I am new to Sony as I have been a Cannon FX user mist of my photo life when I could afford it.  I had the usual suspects EOS30D/40D/50D as well as a 7D and 5Dii (at the same time. All of my lenses were L-glass and my last body was a 5diii before I unloaded EVERYTHING to get a NEX-6 and my most funnest (is there even such a word) a7r.  I replaced my Fuji X20 with the NEX-6.

I'm still learning a lot about the IQ and what is the really good glass to get. So far I have the LAEA4 adapter with a Sigma 35/1.4 ART series which I find this to be an amazing piece of glass.  Also got the G-lens 70-200/2.8 (also pretty darn great!

Now I am shopping for a Minolta 50/1.7 as some have proclaimed this the value "go-to" lens.

As I got older, I just didn't want to carry so much around in my bag and this seems to fit the bill. I do realize the the battery grip is "de-rigeur" as I did a shoot last weekend and had to steal my NEX-6 battery to complete it. My trip to NYC in 2 weeks will have me at BH to get some batts and the grip. Oh ya, I also picked up the 43 flash (really nice)

Now I'm gonna have to "walk the walk", rather than just "talking the talk" so I hope to post some things up soon enough.

Cheers!

Pierre

A big welcome to a friendly and warm forum Pierre :) Nice introduction did you sell all your Canon staff ?

About you age "113 years old"  I thing even a NEX body will be difficult to carry :) you must have enter wrong age.

My wife has a Nex6 which I love very much and use more often than I thought. I mainly use old Minolta MC/MD lens with excellent results. The main point with Nex is To be light so the old lens are compact and very good.

Hope we see some pictures from your trip.

Hi Rex,

I actually always use that as my age.  I try and keep it in the same century :)

Really enjoying both bodies. The EVF of the a7r is nothing short of incredible!

Welcome Pierre (SoulSurferC6 is too long for this ole fella).
I have an A99 but am saving weight with carbon fibre tripods and light weight heads.  My next camera will be one of the NEX most likely as I can still mount my big lenses if I wish.

It would be good to see some city scenes- I always enjoy folks posting images from other parts of the world....john

Thanks for the warm welcome John. I am at the stage of my life that ti know as "tired" as opposed to "retired" so in the two weeks that I have had my awesome a7r and NEX-6, I have not really been able to open them up so to speak.  We are going to Manhattan in mid-December so I intend to shoot a lot of the New York skyline. And I will post, that's a promise!

Stef.

I am still "processing" the amount of control the IQ offers through this body.  Simply awesome!  I will post.
