Camera error
« on: November 15, 2017, 08:04:54 AM »
When I was across on Harris and Lewis back at the end of September my A7ii decided to stop working coming up with "camera error, please turn off then on". Even when doing this the message would just come up again rendering the camera useless as there was no way to get into any menu etc.

I did do a google search when i got to my b&b and it appears it's something to do with the IBIS mechanism either jamming or having broken completely.

I can trick the camera into working by switching it off then on very quickly but i have no IBIS. Looks like it'll be off to Sony for repair when i have the funds to do so. Gutted as it's probably only taken about 5k images. I'm not a prolific shooter when out.

Sorry to hear that Chris. Sony Canada are very slow and I assume Sony Scotland will be the same. I can't remember if you have another camera to use as a backup, if not then that will be a pain. If you could just pop over to Ontario, I could lend you an A850 with lenses. :D

I have the A7rii which i use mainly with a wide angle lens. I usually use the A7ii with a tele lens and will continue to do so until i can get it fixed unless it dies completely between now and then. Fingers crossed it's not too pricey a fix.

After only taking 5000 pictures, I would expect it to be fixed free of charge, even if it was out of warranty.....

Good luck

After seeing their quote to repair a lens last year I very much doubt that. The lens repair was more than the cost of it new so i doubt it'll be cheap even though it appears to be a fairly common fault.
